The Yarra Valley’s best Cabernet blends are produced when the fruit can have adequate time on the vine for the tannins to ripen, without the risk of excessive sugar development. The nose of the 2012 Quintet is one of the most expressive we have seen on release. Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, violets and chocolate are all easily detected. On the palate, again fruit flavours of cherries and blackcurrants are balanced with herbs and spices, giving the wine further complexity. Firm, dusty tannins and French oak-derived characters create the backbone and add to the long, clean and silky finish. There is a precision and clarity to this wine that we believe will continue to improve for the next 20 years.
